You Have Taught Us Grace: A Poem
The movements get bigger
Every day, it seems
As you shimmy your way towards life
And we wait, patiently (some would say)
Though I don’t always feel patient.
Your mother is sacrificing so much
And sometimes I don’t know what I have to give
But enough about me
You are the light in our world
Everything got a bit brighter when we found out
That the first test
And we were three.
It’s difficult to think
That one day you’ll grow tall
And have many words of your own
Because now, today,
It seems you will be small forever.
The love we have for you
Is one we can’t grab with words,
we can’t see you yet.
And maybe that’s what makes you so
You have instilled in us deeper
Without doing anything
But being yourself
And so you have also taught us
And for that, we thank you
And we love you.
